The Apothecary’s Assitant
As part of the Junction BIA’s CONTACT Photography Show
Grainy images of potions, lotions, and elixirs from an old apothecary’s shop evoke a time long before modern
pharmaceuticals when herbal medicinals shared the shelf with tinctures, and morphine was used to treat burns
and help during childbirth. Your local apothecary was part medical advisor, part medicinal dispenser, and
occasionally a surgeon and midwife. Their work with herbal and chemical ingredients in these tinctures and
potions may be regarded as the precursor of modern chemistry and pharmacology.

Building Storeys 2010

Little Art Show
The Little Art Show is the Artists’ Network signature fundraiser, and has established itself as one of
Toronto’s most innovative art events. Artists from around the world donate an 8 x 10 inch art work
to be put up for silent auction. The crowd of art lovers gather at Mercedes-Benz downtown to enjoy
an evening of art, entertainment, music, food and drinks. This year the Artists’ Network is proud to
announce that Jake Gold has graciously agreed to be our Honourary Chair and Master of
Ceremonies. I will be donating a piece for auction and will have a piece for sale in the Member
Gallery on the main floor.

It’s a long journey, processing 1500+ photos from my adventure in Ukraine, but the first gallery will
be up on the new website shortly – a 1735 pharmacy in Lviv full of ancient lotions, potions, herbs and medicines.

Back in December of 2008, my colleague Photomat and I applied for a grant to go and photograph
Chernobyl. We head out on August 29th for two weeks in Ukraine and you can follow our adventure

Hang Man Gallery
To further the business side of my photography career and extend my knowledge of putting
together and curating shows, I have joined the Programming Committee at the Hang Man Gallery.
Being a part of the programming process will allow me to use my project management skills in a
gallery setting while learning how a gallery runs from both a creative and business side. Good
knowledge for the future when I open my own gallery.
Cooling Off…
Summer in the city can be long, hot and steamy. We fantasize what we can do with our summer
vacation and plan it though out the dead of winter. Once upon us we find ways to stay cool in the
hot summer heat, and our conversation turns from how cold it is to how hot. What do you wish you
were doing on your summer vacation?

Say Goodbye To The Old Diner
A fixture on Cherry St. since the 1960s, it fed countless locals and film crews with its famous
meatloaf, and was the location of several famous television and film shoots. Today, the Canary
Restaurant sits quiet and vacant, abandoned for over a year since the closure of the Bayview
extension slowed customers to a trickle. This is my first solo show of the year, and a photographic
journey into the remnants of this once vibrant Toronto landmark.
