Closets Are For Clothes

November 17, 2013 @ The Events, Articles

Those who know me, know that I have been a vocal supporter of same sex rights since I was in high school (I think I was really concerned with getting my braces and headgear off before that time). I was stoked when Derek Forgie, Chair of Heterosexuals for Same Sex Equality (HSSE) contacted me to see if I’d like to take part in National Coming Out Day in October as part of their Closets Are for Clothes campaign.

Along with fellow photographers Dan Abramovici Photography, Sean Ryan Images and Ashlea Wessel, I had the opportunity to present what the phrase Closets Are For Clothes meant to me. Along with my project partner, the extremely talented Larissa of Blonde Moxie Makeup, we came up with a concept that would touch upon the different decades that have dealt with LGBT rights and their gains/losses. With Larissa handling the makeup and hair and with me behind the lens and at the helm of Photoshop, we worked with the repression of Old Hollywood, open love 60s, the height of the Disco era, and new romantic 80s. Have a look at how 2 of the photos were done in these before/after swipes:

It was a fabulous shoot and the campaign went over swimmingly well with a big media push. I’ll be more than happy to donate my time and skills next year if they ask me to. Here’s to my awesome modeling team, and to my awesome MUAH – Larissa…
